DayOne Lands $3.7B to Expand Johor AI Data Center Campus

DayOne Johor data center financing reaches MYR30 billion after seven banks commit about $3.7 billion to expand its AI campus in Malaysia. Learn more.

Singapore-headquartered DayOne Data Centers has secured an expanded financing package of MYR15 billion, about $3.7 billion, from seven banks to grow its hyperscale campus in Johor, Malaysia. The deal lifts total financing for the DayOne Johor data center site to MYR30 billion and shows how quickly the Singapore and Johor corridor is becoming one of Asia’s key AI infrastructure hubs.

Why Johor

Singapore has long been Southeast Asia’s data center capital, but land and power on the island are scarce, and the government has tightly rationed new capacity. Johor, just across the causeway in southern Malaysia, has absorbed much of the overflow. Developers get cheaper land, more power, and a short fiber run to Singapore’s networks and customers. According to Crédit Agricole CIB, Malaysia’s data center supply capacity has grown nearly 39 percent a year since 2023 and could reach 4.2 to 6.1 gigawatts by 2030.

The DayOne Johor Data Center Deal

As reported by TechNode Global, CIMB, Crédit Agricole CIB, DBS, Maybank, OCBC, Standard Chartered and UOB acted as mandated lead arrangers in a joint statement on October 13. The package includes an additional $2.4 billion offshore term loan and a MYR5.5 billion Murabahah facility, an Islamic financing structure in which the lender sells at a disclosed markup rather than charging interest. It builds on a MYR15 billion package DayOne secured in 2025.

The money will fund the next phase of capacity across DayOne’s platform as demand for cloud, AI and digital services climbs. DBS said AI is driving one of the largest investment cycles in Asia in decades and called the Johor and Singapore corridor a strategic node in the AI ecosystem. DayOne has also filed for an IPO on Nasdaq.

Why It Matters

AI’s appetite for compute is reshaping where data centers get built, and Southeast Asia is one of the biggest winners. A largely regional bank syndicate committing this much to a single campus signals confidence that hyperscaler demand will hold. The timing stands out: the deal landed the same day Asian chip stocks slid and the IMF flagged an AI market correction as a near-term financial stability risk. Lenders are still betting that physical AI capacity will be needed even if valuations cool.

The constraints to watch are power and water. Johor’s rapid growth has raised questions about local supply, so how DayOne sources clean energy for this next phase will matter as much as the money.

For now, the financing confirms Johor as a front line of Asia’s AI buildout.
