OpenAI’s Board Pushes Out Sam Altman

As an AI news aggregator, I like to just post the original article and let the story speak for itself.

However, this is an exception because I feel strongly that Sam Altman was done dirty by the reprehensible actions of the OpenAI board of directors.

Let’s start with some of the great contributions Mr. Altman has made to the AI community at large.

  1. Establishing the charter of OpenAI: The Charter emphasizes that the development of AGI should be used for the benefit of all and should avoid uses that could harm humanity or concentrate power in the hands of a few.
  2. Advocacy for Safe AI Development: Altman has spoken about the importance of ensuring that AI development is conducted with safety and ethical considerations in mind. OpenAI’s focus on long-term safety and the responsible development of AGI reflects this perspective.
  3. Leadership and shaping the future of OpenAI: Altman’s role at OpenAI has been significant in shaping the organization’s approach to AI research and development. OpenAI has made AI/AGI a commonplace term in recent years.

Now, I do think Microsoft will benefit from this huge misstep my OpenAI’s board, but only time will tell.

I have a strong personal feeling that the issue at heart of the matter was an IPO. I’m thinking Mr. Altman was not onboard, but the board was pushing for it.
