GPT-6 Rolls Out to All ChatGPT Users With Intelligent UI
3 min readOpenAI has started pushing GPT-6 to every ChatGPT tier, and it is arriving with a new way of answering. The update, which OpenAI calls Intelligent UI, lets ChatGPT reply with interactive charts, forms, calculators and diagrams instead of a wall of text. Paid users got it on October 7, and Free and Go users follow on October 8.
Background: from GPT-5.6 to GPT-6 for everyone
Until this week, ChatGPT’s default experience ran on the GPT-5.6 family. GPT-6 had been expected for months, and OpenAI chose to launch it not as a developer preview but as a consumer rollout aimed at what the company says is more than 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users.
The rollout is tiered by model variant. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts run on GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go accounts get GPT-6 Luna. Enterprise access depends on workplace admin settings. The change covers the Chat tab only; the models behind ChatGPT Work and Codex are unchanged for now.
What Intelligent UI changes
According to OpenAI’s announcement, Intelligent UI means the model decides how an answer should look, not just what it should say. Ask about two phones and you may get a side-by-side comparison. Ask how to split a dinner bill and ChatGPT can build a small bill splitter on the spot. Coverage from MacRumors and others describes tappable buttons, savings calculators, maps and even simple in-chat games appearing inside responses.
Speed is the other headline. GPT-6 can begin answering while it is still reasoning, and interface elements render progressively as the response streams in. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44 percent sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant did.
Why it matters
This is the biggest change to how ChatGPT presents information since the product launched. For years, chatbots have been judged on the quality of their prose. Intelligent UI shifts the contest toward whether an assistant can generate a usable tool in the moment, which puts pressure on Google, Anthropic and Meta to answer with interface features of their own.
It also raises the stakes for OpenAI’s trust problem. The GPT-6 rollout lands days after Common Sense Media rated ChatGPT for Teens an unacceptable risk and while California regulators are still probing the company’s agent incidents. Richer, more persuasive answers will draw sharper questions about accuracy and about what the model shows younger users.
What to watch
Watch for GPT-6 to reach the API, ChatGPT Work and Codex, and for early reports on whether Intelligent UI answers hold up when the generated chart or calculator is wrong. Free-tier users should see the update land throughout October 8.
